The University of Kelaniya has its origin in the historic Vidyalankara Pirivena, founded in 1875 by Ratmalane Sri Dharmaloka Thera as a centre of learning for Buddhist monks.

With the establishment of modern universities in Sri Lanka in the 1940s and 1950s, the Vidyalankara Pirivena became the Vidyalankara University in 1959, later the Vidyalankara Campus of the University of Ceylon in 1972, and, ultimately, the University of rsity of Kelaniya

University of Kelaniya has so many beautiful places to see..

There is a Science faculty in left side when we come through the Kelani kanda.

Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science started functioning in October 1967 with Prof. Charles Dahanayake as the Dean of Science. The intake of the first batch of students was 57. Formal approval for the Faculty was given by the Minister of Education in 1968.

when you enter to the faculty of science in Kelaniya ,you can see respectively,

     

  main building of science faculty→main ground→IT Center →Dharmaloka Hall→Department of computing and statistics→auditorium→base  canteen

In front of the science faculty we can see the gym canteen and the basket ball coard.

University of Kelaniya has few Canteens like Gym, Base, Hilton, Staff... The Places around the canteen are so beautiful and attractive and also University of Kelaniya is the first green university of Sri Lanka, University students love to the green culture.

when we pass the science faculty,we can see a statue of lord buddha.

next this,we can see "thel Bemma"..

infront of the "thel Bemma",we can see the Bandaranayaka Girl's Hostel.

in right hand side..,we can see the entrance of faculty of Humanities.

we can see the entrance of Student Welfare Division,as well as the library.

Student Welfare Division provides so many services....,

• administration and maintenance of hostels,canteens,student centere,the book shop,milk bar and photocophy service.
• calling applications to provide hostel facilities ...etc
• coordinating activities of fundraising  by student unions.........
• etc..................................

Library.

The university library which has a history spanning over 55 years owns a collection of over 239 800 books and monographs relevent to the various study programss and research activities of the university.

library reader services sections are nomally kept open for users from 8.00am to 6.00 pm during weekdays and weekends.However the opening hours will be extended the period prior to examinations.

Next we can see Hilton Canteen,Post office,faculty of commerce and management,medical Center as well.
